CNN panel critical of Kamala Harris’ appearance at city hall: ‘Become Salad City’

CNN panel critical of Kamala Harris’ appearance at city hall: ‘Become Salad City’

CNN commentators were critical of Vice President Kamala Harris’ town hall on Wednesday, suggesting the vice president gave “word salad” answers when she wouldn’t answer a question.

“What concerns me is when she doesn’t want to answer a question,” said commentator David Axelrod. “It’s her habit to use the word ‘salad city,’ and she did so in a few answers.” One was about Israel. Anderson asked a direct question: “Would you be stronger against Israel than Trump?” And there was a seven-minute response, but it had nothing to do with the question he asked.”

Harris spoke to undecided voters Wednesday at a town hall in Pennsylvania moderated by CNN’s Anderson Cooper.

“Some questions like this, about immigration, I thought she missed an opportunity because she didn’t want to acknowledge any concerns about the government’s policies. And that’s a mistake. Sometimes you have to admit things and she didn’t concede much said Axelrod. said.

“What I’m hearing from people I’ve talked to is that if her goal was to close the deal, they’re not sure she did it. And you know, some people have asked, is that her? perhaps held to a different standard. But maybe that’s the world she lives in. And as far as who she is, people understand that a little bit more,” she said.

Bash highlighted a few questions that Harris had no answers for.

‘But what will she do? The question about her legislative priorities, name one, there was none. You know, some more questions about her personality and her kind of character, about your weaknesses or what mistakes you’ve made, not necessarily the answers there,” she said.

However, Bash said the fact that Harris stood in front of voters and spoke directly to them was a “win” for the vice president.

Jake Tapper said the vice president focused more on her opponent than her own policies.

“She focused a lot more on Donald Trump, I think, than on a lot of specifics in terms of what she would do as president,” he said, noting that Harris discussed some plans related to small businesses.

“I think after eight years of Donald Trump, people are aware of Donald Trump’s personality, his propensity for controversy, his potential to offend and the like. And I wonder if you think maybe she did too much,” Tapper added.

John King suggested Harris should make attacking Trump a priority and praised her for her answers talking about herself and her faith. However, he suggested that the vice president had failed to connect this to her policies.

“Where I think she fails sometimes is to connect it more to her policies,” he said, suggesting Harris should embody some of former President Bill Clinton’s personality. “He had a brand where he could look people in the eye and say, ‘I’m on your side. I’m fighting for the middle class,’ right? Putting people first. That’s the connection she needs to make.”

He said the “personal part” was sometimes missing from Harris’ comments.

Abby Phillip suggested that Harris avoided details when pressed by some of the undecided voters in attendance.

“What I think that tripped her up at certain points was that certain constituents were asking to go into more detail about certain policies, and she didn’t want to go there, didn’t want to go into certain details. ”, said Philip. “But it’s hard for her because I think that seems evasive to some voters… They just want to know, are my taxes going to go up if I make $500,000 a year or not? It’s very hard for her.”
