Two brothers of star Limerick hurler Kyle Hayes have pleaded guilty to assaulting a man causing him harm and being armed with a sling and wrenches during the attack.

Daragh Hayes (37) and Cian Hayes (33), both domiciled in Ballyashea, Kildimo, Co Limerick, admitted the offenses before Judge Colin Daly at the Limerick Circuit Criminal Court.

The victim, identified as Ciaran Ryan, was present in court as the two men stood in the dock and confirmed their guilty pleas.

Daragh Hayes admitted one count of assault causing harm to Mr Ryan on September 29, 2021 in Ballyashea, Kildimo. He also pleaded guilty to one count of producing a slingshot during the attack on Mr Ryan, as well as one count of producing a slingshot. a wrench during the attack.

Cian Hayes pleaded guilty to one charge of assault causing harm to Mr Ryan at the same location on the same date. He also admitted producing a spanner during the attack on Mr Ryan, contrary to section 11 of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act, 1990.

Brian McInerney, senior counsel for Daragh Hayes, applied to the court for a pre-sentence psychological report and a probation report in relation to his client. “There are some somewhat complex family dynamics at play, where a psychological report would be exceptionally helpful if presented to the court,” McInerney said.

Lorcan Connolly, senior counsel for Cian Hayes, said his client had “no previous convictions, is married with a young family and has a long track record as an engineer for a multinational”.

Mr Connolly said he was only asking for a probation report for Cian Hayes.

Judge Daly said he would consider the need for the pre-sentencing psychological reports and the probation reports on Friday, October 25.

The two suspects, who were accompanied in court by their parents, were released on bail to appear for sentencing at Limerick Circuit Criminal Court on Friday.

Their brother, five-time All-Ireland winning Limerick hurler Kyle Hayes, is currently appealing in court against a conviction for dangerous driving, which saw him banned from driving for two years and fined €250.

Kyle Hayes (26) was convicted of a traffic offense at Mallow District Court last September after he was caught driving 95mph in a 60mph zone on the N20 last July. The outcome of that appeal, which is yet to be heard at Cork Circuit Criminal Court, will determine whether or not he will be brought before Limerick Circuit Criminal Court to activate a two-year suspended prison sentence he was given last March after was sentenced to two years in prison. convicted of two counts of violent disorder.
