Another 1,100 prisoners released amid overcrowding crisis – Channel 4 News

Eleven hundred prisoners are being released early – as part of the government’s emergency plan to ease the overcrowding crisis in prisons in England and Wales.

The Prime Minister said he “shared the public anger” at seeing prisoners walking free, but said there was “no choice”.

A major sentencing review was also announced today – led by former Conservative justice secretary David Gauke – as part of a series of measures to prevent what the government says could be a ‘complete paralysis’ of the entire justice system .
