Black Ops 6′ confirms cheat-busting upgrade

Activision has confirmed that its Ricochet anti-cheat software has been pre-upgraded Call of Duty: Black Ops 6′s launch.

Call of duty players have always had to deal with cheats while playing multiplayer, despite Activision’s best efforts to ban them as soon as possible. Earlier this year, then Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was released on Xbox Game Pass, players experienced an increase in cheats due to an issue with the Ricochet anti-cheat technology.

Now, however, Activision has confirmed a major update for Ricochet, including new machine-learning behavioral systems focused on detection speed and combat target bots.

“Over the past year we have invested in numerous core systems, aimed at reducing the time difference between the moment fraud occurs and the moment our systems can take action. By building on this foundation, we will be able to evolve faster and respond faster,” said a special blog post.

Activision confirmed that it considers cheats to be “anything that gives a player an unfair advantage in the game through the use of nefarious software,” as well as things like account sharing.

“The people behind cheats are organized, illegal groups that pick apart every piece of data in our games to find a way to enable cheating. These bad guys aren’t just some script kiddies poking around with code they found online. They are a collective that profits from exploiting the hard work of game developers across the industry,” Activision continued.

“The most important thing that we and you care about is that you don’t lose another match because of a cheater. A lot has been put into it BlackOps6 to improve security, but this is the goal we are focused on: we want to catch and remove cheaters within an hour of their first match.”

The team used the recent one Call of Duty: Black Ops6 beta to fine-tune their system and have already seen improvements in how quickly they can stop cheats. “During the beta, we stopped over 12,000 confirmed cheat accounts before they ever saw the inside of a match.”

According to Activision, this is just the beginning. “We can’t tell you that cheaters will disappear forever because of the technology we are preparing for launch. But everyone here will do everything possible to keep fighting to give you a fair and fun experience! And if the right tools don’t exist, we make them ourselves. Anti-cheating is an ongoing effort and we are always working to stop and thwart the efforts of cheaters.”

Call of Duty: Black Ops6 will be launched next Friday, October 25. Some fans are angry that Xbox has discontinued the £1 trial for Xbox Game Pass, removing a cheap way to try out the game.

In other news, Avenged Sevenfold has launched a ‘digital museum’ Fortnite to celebrate the band’s 25th anniversary.
