Rudolph Speid confirms talks to recruit both Mason Greenwood and Newcastle United player

Interesting comments from Rudolph Speid about former Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood.

As well as Speid confirming talks over Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden.

Rudolph Speid is chairman of the technical committee of the Jamaican Football Federation.

He has spoken to the media there about efforts to get both Mason Greenwood and Isaac Hayden to sign up for international football with Jamaica.

Michail Antonio, Demarai Gray and Mason Holgate have already committed to Jamaica, with Head Coach Steve McClaren looking to add Isaac Hayden and Mason Greenwood, among others.

Rudolph Speid speaks to The Gleaner:

On how to try to sign up Mason Greenwood:

“We are still trying to get him to come, but things are complex and not easy to bridge.

“No deal is a deal until it is fully completed, but we are keeping our fingers crossed and hoping for the best.”

On how to try to sign up Isaac Hayden:

“We are pursuing Isaac Hayden, but ultimately it is the coach’s decision.

“We think he’s very close, but nothing will be done until it’s done.

“That’s how I look at it, but again, it’s very close.”

At work, Head Coach Steve McClaren:

“The senior team is a team that we do not interfere with.

“It’s in his contract that he can choose who he wants, just get the results. That’s exactly what we brought the coach in for and anyone playing for Jamaica will be the coach’s decision.

“You can see that we have gained more confidence on the ball and have more possession.

“We are getting the results, we recently finished top of the table in the Concacaf Nations League, qualified for the Gold Cup and that is the most we can ask for at the moment.”
