Nick Knowles reveals health update with fans as he shares first video from hospital after surgery after self-harm on Strictly

Nick Knowles has revealed he now has a ‘reattached biceps’ following surgery following injuries suffered during rehearsals for Strictly Come Dancing.

The DIY SOS star, 62, took to Twitter on Thursday and shared a video from his hospital bed telling fans he has ‘two or three months’ of physiotherapy ahead of him.

He said, “I just woke up from my surgery. All went well so I now have a reattached bicep, so a bit of physio over the next two or three months and all should be good and back to 100% I think.

“So that’s one down and one to go on the knee,” he added, captioning the video: “All done – thanks to Mr. Ahrens, the surgeon and all the medical staff.”

Nick and his professional dance partner Luba Mushtuk had to withdraw from Movie Week after the star hurt his shoulder and knee.

Nick fell and injured his knee during a jump, leaving him on crutches and going to hospital for an MRI scan.

The TV presenter was well enough to return to Strictly, but his comeback was short-lived as he became the third celebrity to be eliminated on Sunday.

Nick and Luba lost the dance-off to Shayne Ward and Nancy Xu.

Both pairs performed their routines again; Shayne and Nancy performed their Cha Cha to Ain’t No Love (Ain’t No Use) by Sub Sub feat. Melanie Williams.

Nick and Luba then performed their Charleston to Rain on the Roof from the film Paddington 2.

Despite narrowly returning to the competition as he recovered from a shoulder and knee injury, Nick, 62, was soon sent home by all four judges: Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke.

When Tess asked about their time on the show, Nick said, “I’m really surprised by how much I enjoyed it and two things that happened.”

He explained, “One is how much you care every week, and the other is how much you don’t want to let your partner down.

“The only reason I could do this is simply because of Luba’s changes, she’s amazing.”

Luba said, “I have never met anyone as determined as you, and I remember you saying that if you do your best, you will be very happy. I think you’ve done more than your best. Thank you.’

When Tess asked him about his partner Luba, Nick said: ‘Luba has been amazing and so fantastic every day.

‘And I would also like to say thank you to all the background staff, the physios, all the people who have actually helped me through this week, and to all my fellow competitors who have been absolutely amazing, beautiful people.

“There are some great dancers there, and I’ll enjoy watching the rest of the series.”

The remaining 12 couples will hit the dance floor next week when ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ returns on Saturday, October 19, with the results airing on BBC One on Sunday, October 20.

Both episodes from this weekend are now available to watch via BBC iPlayer.
