Adi Hütter confirms AS Monaco’s goalkeeper change

Adi Hütter has confirmed that Radoslaw Majecki (24) will regain his place as AS Monaco’s number 1 following his return from injury.

Majecki replaced Philipp Kohn in the Monaco goal last season. The latter was brought in in the summer of 2023 as a replacement for Alexander Nubel, whose loan spell from Bayern Munich came to an end. However, amid a tough run of form, he was replaced by Majecki, who had impressed during his limited appearances.

The Polish goalkeeper kept his place until the end of the season after convincing Adi Hutter. Ahead of the current season, the Austrian manager confirmed Majecki would keep his place, but the latter suffered an ankle injury in pre-season.

Majecki returned just before the international break, but was not fit enough to start. However, speaking at a press conference, attended by Receive French football news, Adi Hütter has confirmed that the Polish goalkeeper will regain his number 1 jersey when Monaco face Lille OSC on Friday evening.

“Yes, tomorrow Radek will be in goal again. We make the change. Philipp was number 1 when he arrived. He brought us doubts and so we changed. Radek (Majecki) is clearly number 1,” Hütter began.

He added: “He was very important in achieving our goal of qualifying for the Champions League (last season). That changed after Radek’s injury in the preparation. It was an opportunity for Köhn to score. Now Majecki is back and he is number 1.”

Hütter revealed that the decision was announced to the two goalkeepers on Wednesday. “As you can imagine, no one is happy with that decision: this is football. I sympathize with him (Köhn). He’s a professional. It was difficult to accept, but he supported the decision. It wasn’t easy for us, but as a coach you have to make decisions,” said the Monaco manager.
