KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – A man accused of violent crimes, including injuring an officer, was sentenced Wednesday.

Juriah Jordan Roncal, 33, of Dunbar, was convicted of unlawful battery on a law enforcement officer and battery on Oct. 9, 2024, under a guilty plea.

He will serve a maximum sentence of 12 months on the battery charge, followed by an indeterminate sentence of one to five years for unlawfully wounding a law enforcement officer.

According to court documents, on February 22, 2023, members of the Dunbar Police Department were dispatched to Dunbar Avenue.

While en route to the scene of a reported assault, a police officer found Juriah Roncal. Police say Roncal matched the description of the man involved in the violent incident.

When police tried to stop Roncal, they say he became violent and led the officer on a chase before charging at him, hitting the officer in the head several times and causing injuries.
