Former corrections office convicted of smuggling contraband into detention center

PHILADELPHIA – A former Sicklerville corrections officer has been sentenced to house arrest for smuggling cellphones into a detention center.

Lee E. Moore Jr., 36, will be confined at his residence for six months as part of a three-year probation period, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Philadelphia.

Moore was also ordered to pay a $5,000 fine on Thursday.

Moore worked at the Federal Detention Center (FDC) in Philadelphia from August 2016 to June 2023, the federal prosecutor’s office said in a statement.

He allegedly brought phones into the building in 2020 in exchange for payments from an inmate’s wife.

“In June 2020, Moore also approached a second inmate about smuggling contraband or other special favors in exchange for payment,” the statement said.

“Lee Moore endangered his colleagues and the public by smuggling cellphones into FDC for pay,” said U.S. Attorney Jacqueline Romero. “But the price for breaking his law enforcement oath is much higher: he has lost his job and now has a federal conviction under his belt.”
