Lock sends contract message

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has not-so-subtly reminded his bosses that three of the best Champions League players of all time have contracts at the club about to expire.

The Dutchman was recently asked to name his top Champions League winners XI for Amazon Prime Video Sport and chose to include FOUR from his current Liverpool stable, as well as another club legend in the form of Steven Gerrard.

Goalkeeper Alisson Becker, a veteran of Liverpool’s Champions League triumph, is joined by the aforementioned trio Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk.

It appears Slot has taken the opportunity to lay the foundation for three players he is keen to keep at the club before their contracts expire.

Liverpool blows golden opportunity

Liverpool’s attempt to strengthen its already lethal attack has been threatened.

Arne Slot’s side have adapted well to the new regime and currently sit top of the Premier League, having scored 22 goals in their first ten games in all competitions.

However, a crucial part of the success is Mohamed Salah, who is out of contract next summer. Should the Egyptian leave at the end of his contract, the Reds will be on high alert for talent to add to their squad.

Interstar confirms interest

Liverpool’s 4-1 defeat to Napoli at the Stadio Diego Armando Marando in September 2022 will not be remembered too fondly by Reds, and for good reason.

Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa and Giovanni Simeone were joined by two goals from Piotr Zielinski that day as they demolished Jurgen Klopp’s men.

But it could all have been so different.

Zielinski has revealed in an interview with Foot Truck that he once went to Jurgen Klopp’s house to discuss a possible transfer to Liverpool when the Polish star was still at Udinese.

Henderson is looking forward to the return of the boys’ club

Jordan Henderson’s career hasn’t exactly improved since his departure from Liverpool.

After 12 years and 492 games on Merseyside, the former captain left for the riches and sunshine of Saudi Arabia. He signed for Dammam-based Al-Ettifaq in the summer of 2023, joining Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard, who remains manager of the club.

However, Henderson played exactly 19 games for Al-Ettifaq before his contract was terminated and he signed for Dutch giants Ajax instead. Although a spell at one of European football’s truly historic clubs is more respectable, Henderson still completely lost his place in the England squad.

Klopp could strengthen United

When it was announced last week that Jurgen Klopp would become Red Bull’s Global Head of Soccer, little attention was paid to the idea that he would help Liverpool’s direct rivals.

Understandably, there was a lot of fuss about the legendary coach’s return to football in general, as well as the moral conundrum of him joining the Red Bull group.

But between Klopp and his former assistant Pep Lijnders, who is currently having a torrid time as head coach of Red Bull Salzburg, Liverpool is now inextricably linked to the organization.

And that’s why TEAMtalk’s report that Manchester United are interested in signing Salzburg right-back Amar Dedic in January leaves a bit of a bitter taste in the Reds’ mouths.
