Gene Simmons defends his DWTS comments after backlash

Gene Simmons defended himself against the backlash he received for his controversial comments after recently guest judging Dancing with the stars.

“I stand by every word I said,” Simmons, 75, told the newspaper Daily mail on Thursday, October 10. “I had a great time. The participants were great. The show was great. Watch the broadcast.”

While speaking to the outlet, Simmons encouraged people to watch the ABC dance competition series.

“Everyone has something to say,” he continued. “Watch the show, it was a lot of fun. Everyone had a great time.”

Simmons turned heads during the Tuesday, October 8, episode for some of his reactions to the couples’ performances. After Chandler Kinney And Brandon Armstrong While doing a jive to Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It,” Simmons said the routine “fogged up” his glasses.

While responding to Simmons’ comment, Kinney spoke exclusively We weekly after the show that her only response was “LOL”. She added: “Brandon has more feelings than me.”

Explaining his thought process, Armstrong added, “I said, ‘Wait a minute.’ I have two little sisters. I heard it. I said, ‘Wait, wait, wait.’”

Simmons also raised eyebrows – and surprised the artists themselves – when he dished out some hard-hitting scores. After telling Jen Tran“Besides being beautiful, you’re also a performer,” Simmons told the former bachelorette and partner Sasha Farber a low score. Simmons said, “Don’t hate me” before holding up a seven, while the other judges gave the pair eights.

While some Dancing With the Stars contestants are understandably eliminated because of their two left feet, other contestants are sent home way too early. The voting system received an overhaul for season 28, following radio host Bobby Bones’ controversial win a season earlier, but the change didn’t stop formidable competitors from leaving the ballroom. The KISS singer and bassist also gave Bravo personality Phaedra Parks a five, while the other judges gave her and partner Val Chmerkovskiy sevens. The crowd started cheering as Parks and Chmerkovskiy appeared shocked by the score. Kinney covered her mouth before saying, “What’s going on?”

Cohost Julianne Hough called the night “wild,” before adding, “Okay, we can’t say it enough, you’ve got to vote to save your favorites from tonight’s double elimination.” (Eric Roberts and his partner, Britt Stewart, as well as Reginald VelJohnson and his partner, Emma Slater, were eventually sent home on Tuesday.)

After Tuesday’s show, Parks joked about Simmons, “I thought he didn’t like little black women.” Chmerkovskiy in turn added jokingly Page six on Tuesday: “He likes tall black women.”

Dancing with the stars will simulcast on ABC and Disney+ Tuesdays at 8pm ET. Episodes will be available to stream the next day on Hulu and Disney+.
