Michael Anderson was recently sentenced in Moose Jaw Provincial Court to 18 months in prison for assault on an intimate partner.

Anderson had been convicted after a trial, but provincial Attorney General Rob Parker and legal aid attorney Brendan Pyle reached a joint sentencing proposal.

Parker noted that Anderson had a long record of violent convictions, although these mostly involved making threats.

He added that another aggravating factor was that the attack took place over a period of one or two days.

“This has been a long and protracted case,” Park told the court.

Parker said the victim was able to leave the home and went to a neighbor for help.

The joint filing was for an 18-month prison sentence without probation.

Judge David Chow agreed that 18 months was appropriate. Anderson was arrested on February 14 and had actually served 240 days, of which 360 were credited, leaving him with 180 days left to serve.

Anderson declined to comment when Chow asked if he had anything to say. Chow waived the victim fine surcharge.
