Wataru Endo confirms he plans to stay at Liverpool for a long time

Liverpool’s determined midfielder Wataru Endo has only been on the pitch for 85 minutes this season. Despite this limited playing time, the 31-year-old Japan international remains determined to stay at Anfield, believing his role will grow as the season progresses. Endo is yet to become a regular starter under new manager Arne Slot, but his determination remains unwavering.

Endo’s early struggles and his determination

After a promising debut season, Endo has found himself on the periphery, having made just one start in Liverpool’s ten games so far. His appearances have mainly come in the final moments of matches, with three late substitutions underlining his current squad status. Although it is a noticeable change from his previous role, Endo’s commitment to Liverpool and his willingness to fight for his place has not diminished.

There was interest from other clubs during the summer transfer window, but Endo opted to stay. Sharing his thoughts with Japan’s Synchroon, he explained: “We have a new manager. I think he wants to see every player. It’s too early to judge anything. A club like Liverpool needs squad depth. It takes all the players to play in all these competitions and win titles.”

Endo knows Liverpool’s busy schedule requires a deep squad and he is confident his opportunity will come. He continued, “I have no idea what people are saying about me, but my plan remains here. I did what I had to do and got myself in shape.”

Professionalism amid transfer speculation

While rumors swirl of possible interest in January from other Premier League teams, Endo remains undeterred. His focus is on being ready when called upon, demonstrating a level of professionalism and resilience that has caught the attention of his manager.

Arne Slot reflected on Endo’s dedication and recently praised his short but impressive performance against Crystal Palace. Slot noted: ‘At certain clubs or other teams I sometimes see a player come in with a bit of a ‘you’re only using me for five or seven minutes?’ But if you look at how Wata came in now, how good he was on the ball, but also the second balls he won, he only had a very good impact in these seven minutes.”

Slot’s comments underline Endo’s positive impact on the team, even in a limited number of minutes. This dedication to excellence, regardless of playing time, speaks volumes about Endo’s character and work ethic.

An international boost and Endo’s role in the future

Endo’s experience with the Japanese national team has provided additional opportunities to maintain match fitness, which could stand Liverpool in good stead as the season progresses. Endo played for 90 minutes in Japan’s 2-0 win over Saudi Arabia, demonstrating the skills and stamina that made him a valuable asset upon his arrival at Anfield. His international performances are a reminder of his abilities, and his commitment to Liverpool is a testament to his determination.

Despite missing just one matchday squad so far this season, Endo’s contributions could extend beyond the pitch. His dedication and professionalism set a high standard within the Liverpool camp. Players like Endo are essential for a club looking to compete in multiple competitions, and his presence strengthens the depth of Liverpool’s squad as they hunt for silverware.
