Ukrainian forces carried out a successful attack on the Russian military airfield Khanskaya in the Republic of Adygea, the Ukrainian General Staff confirmed on October 10.

The confirmation comes shortly after Adygea Republic authorities made a report drone attack against the region early on October 10. The Russian Telegram news channel Astra wrote about explosions near the airport the same morning.

“During the attack, 57 fighter jets, trainer aircraft and helicopters were stationed at the airport. Sun-34 And Su-35 jets And Mi-8 helicopters”, a source in the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) told the Kiev Independent. The General Staff also reported this Su-27 fighter jets were stationed at the airport.

The operation was carried out in cooperation between the SBU, the Ukrainian Military Intelligence (HUR), and the Special Operations Forces, according to the SBU source and the General Staff.

Also on October 10, SBU, HUR, Army and Special Operations Forces drones hit a Shahed drone storage facility near the Russian city of Yeysk, the source added, resulting in explosions and a powerful fire.

The extent of the damage to the aircraft in Adygea is currently being determined. According to the General Staffthe strike damaged an ammunition warehouse, resulting in a fire, which can also be seen on footage shared on social media.

The airfield is located near the village of Khanskaya, close to the region’s capital Maykop, and about 430 kilometers (270 miles) from the front line. Khanskaya Airport is home to the Russian 272nd Training Aviation Regiment.

Citing satellite images, the Defense Express outlet gave a lower estimate of the number of aircraft based at the airport. Satellite images from October 6 show twelve aircraft of an unknown type based at the airbase, which is about the size of one tactical aviation squadron.

It is currently unclear whether the figure given by the SBU source was an overestimate or whether Russia has moved additional aircraft to the airbase in recent days.

According to the source, Russia uses the airbase for refueling and to support air strikes on Ukrainian military positions and population centers.

After arrive in Britain earlier on October 10, Zelensky outlined the details of the plan to Starmer, focusing on points related to military support for Kiev. “The leaders agreed to work with the Allies on the plan,” the spokesperson said Presidential office said.

Rutte Visited Kiev last week during his first trip to Ukraine’s capital as NATO chief, a position he took up on October 1.

“During the meeting, the parties discussed rapid implementation of Decisions of the NATO summit in Washingtonin particular on strengthening Ukraine with new air defense systems, improving aviation capabilities and allied investments in Ukrainian production of grenades, drones and long-range weapons,” the presidential office said.

Viktoria Roshchyna, a Ukrainian journalist held captive by Russia, has died, Petro Yatsenko, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, said on national television on October 10.

The circumstances of her death are still being confirmed, Yatsenko said.

Roshchyna disappeared in August 2023 while reporting for duty Russian occupied territory. Her father received a letter from the Russian Ministry of Defense in April the following year confirming that she was being held by Russian authorities.

Russian missile strike on Odesa Oblast hit ship with humanitarian aid for Palestine, Kyiv says

A Russian missile attack on Odesa Oblast on October 9 struck a civilian cargo ship carrying 45 containers of packaged sunflower oil to be sent to Palestine as humanitarian aid, the Ukrainian Ministry of Agriculture said on October 10.

The attack, which killed eight people and injured 11, hit a Panamanian-flagged civilian ship and damaged its cargo of aid. It was the third Russian attack on a civilian ship in four days.
