Dr. Dre sued for million by divorce psychotherapist for harassment

A psychotherapist sues Dr. Dre for $10 million for ‘intolerable harassment’. According to Rolling stonethe rapper launched a “systematic and vicious” attack on the doctor, leaving him wearing a bulletproof vest and fearing for his life.

Dr. Charles Sophy filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court, claiming that Dre, born Andre Young, hired him in 2018 to mediate the breakup of his marriage to his now ex-wife Nicole Young. Sophy says he worked “diligently, independently and honestly” and that communication stopped when the couple reached a settlement in 2021.

Fourteen months later, Dre allegedly sent Sophy a text message claiming he had acted inappropriately. “Rather than treat the mediation process as an opportunity for healing, Young turned his frustrations with the mediation out on Dr. Sophy – frustrations that manifested in the form of a nearly year-long sustained campaign of late-night texting, threats of intimidation and violence, and homophobic rhetoric,” the lawsuit states.

Dre’s lawyer, Howard King, admitted this Rolling stone a statement stating that Dre filed a “confidential complaint” against Sophy with the Osteopathic Medical Board of California last year, alleging “Dr. To have Sophy punished for dereliction of duty and incredible incompetence.” He continued:

That complaint seeks the revocation of Dr.’s license. Sophy to provide mental health care to needy patients. In gross violation of all applicable standards of care, Dr. Sophy entered into a controversial divorce, while at the same time ‘dealing’ with not only Mr and Mrs Young, but also their children. He was fired when it was revealed that he encouraged one of their children to take sides against Mr. Young, and even encouraged his son to go to the press with false accusations to force a financial settlement that he recommended. Dr. Sophy has consistently rejected attempts by the Medical Board to investigate these claims, but has now filed this desperate complaint as the Medical Board’s noose continues to tighten.

In Sophy’s lawsuit, obtained by Rolling stoneSophy says that on February 16, 2023, around 10 p.m., he received an “overtly threatening” message from Dre, claiming that someone had told him something “disturbing” and that Sophy “should pay for it.” When Sophy expressed his confusion, Dre responded, “Yes, you,” and, “You’re a piece of shit.” The next morning Sophy texted: ‘Good morning, I have no idea what you are talking about and I would make myself available to discuss at any time. Thanks.” Dre replied, “You blew it!! Just to be clear, I love being underappreciated.”

Sophy says Dre “wrongly accused” him of trying to turn an unknown third party against him, and he says Dre “wrongly accused” him of acting inappropriately during the divorce mediation. On March 5, 2023, another text message arrived saying, “What happened doctor? I thought you wanted to talk. Cat goes your tongue? You will have to give me a written apology. If not, I’ll move on. I’m not playing, believe me.”

In June 2023, Dre allegedly attempted to have Sophy unlawfully disclose confidential information he obtained during a therapy session with a third party. Sophy says he refused and “again tried to remain calm and hoped that Young’s threats, intimidation and intimidation would stop.” Dre sent another “disturbing and chilling text message” on August 4, 2023, threatening: “Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten you.” Sophy says the “particularly sinister” lyrics made him “more afraid for his life than ever before.”

Sophy claims that after the first texts were sent in February 2023, a security guard at his gated community called him and told him that individuals claiming to be FBI agents were “requesting to be led to Dr. Sophy’s residence to to ‘talk’ him.” Sophy says he believes they were trying to gain access to his home and “send the unmistakable message” that Sophy was not safe even in “the sanctity of his home.”

The lawsuit states:

Dr. Sophy lives in constant fear. He wears a bulletproof vest every time he steps foot outside, is afraid to leave his house, and is constantly looking over his shoulder. The blatant nature of Young’s continued harassing behavior has Dr. Sophy pushed to seek redress and protection. No one should have to live in constant fear. But Dr. Sophy does – ironically for no other reason than he was trying to help Young resolve the conflict in his own family.

The lawsuit seeks compensatory damages of at least $10 million and punitive damages to be decided at trial. It also has claims of civil harassment, threats of violence based on his sexual orientation, and a court order banning contact.
