Evan Gershkovich, American reporter for The Wall Street Journal who spent more than a year in Russian prison, writes a memoir.

According to The New York Timesin his memoirs he will talk about his experiences in prison and his five years in Moscow.

Paul Whitlatch, editor-in-chief of Crown, called the book “a testament to human resilience and a work of first-person reportage with few precedents in modern times.”

His statement continued: “During those sixteen months in Russian prisons, he never stopped being a reporter, even as he faced a reality that few of us can imagine.”

The memoir is expected to be released by Crown in the United States in 2026.

Gershkovich was arrested in March while reporting, making him the first American journalist to face spying charges in Russia since the end of the Cold War.

He was released in August in a major prisoner swap involving seven countries.

Together with Crown, the memoirs were sold to William Collins, a publisher in Britain, and Meulenhof, a publisher in the Netherlands, according to Mr. Gershkovich’s agent, Adam Eglin.
