Ace Australia pacer Tayla Vlaeminck dislocated her shoulder while trying to save a boundary during her team’s match against Pakistan at the Women’s T20 World Cup in Dubai on Friday. The defending champions defeated Pakistan by nine wickets, but Vlaeminck’s unfortunate injury will keep them thinking, especially after skipper Alyssa Healy also injured herself.

Vlaeminck dislocated her right shoulder in the incident and her latest setback was unfortunate given her history of serious injuries. At this point, everyone in the Australian team management is hoping her recovery will be quick.

Vlaeminck chased the ball to the end and then started a slide to prevent it from going over the boundary. Unfortunately, her knee stuck to the ground and she fell on her right shoulder, taking all the impact of the action on it. Watch the video here:

Vlaeminck grabbed her shoulder and sat on the border line, the pain and agony visible on her face. Several of her teammates and the physio immediately rushed to her side. Her shoulder was moved, but the extent of the damage remains concerning.

Vlaeminck previously dislocated her left shoulder while playing for Victoria in the 2017/18 season. “It’s devastating to see one of your friends go down and know the road Tay takes to get back here. She’s someone who probably works harder than anyone I know, so to see someone like that to see her go down with a new injury, we all felt for her,” Australian all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner said at the post-match press conference.

Just as the Aussies were reeling from Vlaeminck’s injury, skipper Healy limped off the field with an acute injury to her right foot while running between the wickets.

If both Vlaeminck and Healy are ruled out, the Australian team management will have to come up with some quick replacement options, with scan results due to be released on Saturday, October 12.

Australia next play India in their final group match on Sunday, October 13.
