Davenport man convicted of child pornography

DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) – A Davenport man will spend more than a decade in prison for receiving child pornography.

Devin Lee Ortiz, 32, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for receiving and searching for child sexual abuse material on his phone in July 2020, according to a news release from the U.S. Department of Justice, Southern District of Iowa Attorney’s Office. After completing his term, Ortiz will have to serve a 10-year term of supervised release. He must also repay $21,000.

Ortiz’s phone contained approximately 550 images of child sexual abuse material, officials said. Ortiz did this while at the Residential Reentry Center in Davenport as a result of a 2013 conviction for lascivious acts with a child in the Iowa District Court for Scott County.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice.
