Northampton rugby player embarks on solo fundraising tour

An amateur rugby player plans to embark on a solo rugby tour to raise funds for a men’s mental health support group.

Jake Doyle, 32, from Northampton, will play for a different rugby club each weekend during a match until April 12 to raise funds for Man Cave UK.

Doyle, who works as a life coach for young people leaving care, will take on the challenge without any preparation or prior knowledge of the teams he will join.

He added: “I’m trying to play for as many county clubs as possible. It’s just about coming and having a bit of fun.”

Doyle has been involved in rugby since he was 13 and said he balances sport with training.

So far during the fundraising he has joined eight teams including Daventry RFC, Northampton Mens Own RFC and Towcestrians RFC.

Doyle described the process as “I arrive, meet with the team, talk about what they’re doing, go into warm-up and then straight into the game.”

Doyle said participating in the fundraising tour has given him “positive memories and friendships throughout the county.”
