Minico’s Preston Sonner-Cranney named Player of the Week for Friday Night Blitz final

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) – The Idaho high school football playoff quarterfinals are in the books with six area teams advancing to the semifinals.

There were plenty of great performances in the quarterfinals, but our final Friday Night Blitz Player of the Week goes to a Minico running back.

That distinction goes to Minicos Preston Sonner Cranney, who has now received the award three times.

The senior running back continued to lead the Spartans in battle, racking up four rushing touchdowns, including the game-winning score, while The Spartans defeated the Bishop Kelly Knights 41-35 in triple overtime.

To make it even sweeter for Minico, this was a rematch from earlier in the season where the Spartans lost by 12 points.

Sonner-Cranney now has 32 touchdowns, including the regular season and playoffs, as he and the Spartans look to keep the momentum going into the semifinals.

Minico coach Sherman Blaser praised his senior running back.

“He’s been a workhorse for us all season. A great guy and leader of our team. I think he’s the best player in the state,” Blaser told KMVT. “I’m proud of the team for their determination and bravery against BK (Bishop Kelly). “They are a special group.”

No. 5 Minico will face No. 1 Skyline in the semifinals on Saturday.

Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 at the ICCU Dome in Pocatello.
