New guidelines promise fun, learning and adventure, Delhi schools, bag free days, experiential learning, field trips, workshops, NEP 2020

New Delhi: In a bid to make school life more exciting, the Directorate of Education (DoE) has introduced new guidelines for 10 ‘bag-free days’ in both government and private schools in Delhi. The initiative, aimed at students in grades six through eight, promises to turn the typical school day into an adventure full of hands-on learning and fun activities.

Developed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the concept aims to make education more experiential, joyful and stress-free. Instead of textbooks and heavy school bags, students will participate in immersive activities such as field trips, workshops and creative exercises designed to stimulate their curiosity.

“Bagless days can include activities such as visiting historical monuments, cultural sites, craft centers or tourist spots. Students can also interact with artists and craftspeople, giving them hands-on insights into heritage and traditions,” the guidelines said.

To ensure optimal use of school resources, the DoE suggested including ongoing programs such as the Happiness Curriculum and field trips as part of these bag-free days. The initiative aims not only to broaden the horizons of students but also to encourage them to realize the importance of heritage conservation.

With learning beyond the classroom and hands-on experiences, Delhi students are ready for a refreshing break from the routine, where education truly meets discovery.
