Tom Cruise presents the first trailer for ‘Mission: Impossible 8’

After almost three decades, it seems that the Mission: Impossible The film franchise is finally coming to an end. Its eighth installment, The final reckoningwhose premiere is scheduled for May 23, 2025, with the leading actor Tom Cruise recently presenting the poster, the title of the film and its first trailer.

The 62-year-old actor shared the trailer and caption: “Every election has led to this.” This suggests that the eighth part of the franchise would close many of the loose ends from previous films. Initially intended to be a “second part” to Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, The final reckoning has suffered numerous production delays and setbacks, particularly as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, and the SAG-AFTRA writers and actors strike last year.

The new film features some familiar faces from previous installments. Its cast includes Simon Pegg, Hayley Atwell, Esai Morales, Ving Rhames, Vanessa Kirby, Pom Klementieff and many more. Some new characters will also be introduced, including but not limited to:those played by Hannah Waddingham, Janet McTeer, Katy O’Brian and Nick Offerman.

The newly released trailer for The final reckoning It feels like an expected action-packed finale to the beloved series. In just a few minutes, Cruise is shown hanging from a biplane, crashing cars, exploring the wreckage of a submarine and, of course, racing through different scenarios.

Although The first trailer doesn’t reveal much about the plot, particularly as it is similar in content to most action movie trailers, there are some details that will be exciting for fans. That is, Angela Bassett, who first appeared in Mission: Impossible—Fallout In 2018, she is revealed to have returned as CIA Director Erika Sloane.

Looking at the trailer, it looks like the film will also feature the Golden Key, a focal point of Dead opinion. In that installment, Cruise and company were tasked with finding the key as it would help them stop the evil AI ‘Entity’. The key features prominently in the trailer and is seen placed on a block of ice at one point.

Although everything, so far, points towards The final reckoning Being a farewell to the franchise, both Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie have repeatedly said that they would like to continue the series indefinitely. Mission: Impossible star Simon Pegg, speaking with Far Earlier this year, he confirmed: “(Tom Cruise) shows no signs of stopping. The moment you can’t do what you want, you’ll stop,” and at the same time clarifies, “You never want to let your audience down.”
