Varsity seeks government intervention against attacks, land grabbing in Rivers – News – The Guardian Nigeria News – Nigeria and World News

Representatives of the University of Nations, Abara, in Etché Local Council of Rivers State, yesterday urged the state and federal government to intervene in the relentless attacks by land grabbers who allegedly operate with impunity under the apparent protection of certain operatives of the Rivers State Police Command. .

The university’s project director, Salvation Moses, said this is a pressing concern that threatens the integrity and existence of the institution.

He claimed that criminal elements have become emboldened, showing a shocking disdain for the rule of law, and invaded land duly purchased by the American Missionary Institution more than a decade ago.

Moses revealed this at a press conference in Port Harcourt, saying that the alleged land grabbers do not possess legitimate documentation to back up their claims, but instead relied on armed thugs and corrupt security agents who bypass the law for personal gain.

Meanwhile, at the time of filing this report, the spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said the officers were never involved in such cases, especially land cases.

He added that the Commissioner of Police (CP) confirmed the incident and ordered a thorough investigation into the matter.

River police spokesperson expressed surprise that people held a press conference on the matter even though it is under investigation. He revealed that the State Criminal Investigation Department is handling the matter and the investigation has been launched.
