Happy Birthday Prabhas: Here’s how Telugu actor established himself as a pan-Indian star

Prabhas turns 45 today. The actor has given us so many memorable and iconic films that not only entertained the audience but also strengthened Indian cinema on a global level. Prabhas made his debut in 2002 with Eeswar and has done more than twenty films so far. Popularly called Rebel Star, the Telugu actor emerged as India’s first-ever Pan-India star with SS Rajamouli’s two-part magnum opus: Baahubali film franchise. Here you can see how the Mirchi actor stormed the box office with his huge fan following.

In 2015, SS Rajamouli and Prabhas presented Telugu cinema in a new avatar with Baahubali: Part 1, going beyond regional boundaries and coining the term ‘Pan-India’. The film turned out to be a huge phenomenon that kickstarted the culture of two-part storytelling and brought regional cinema to the pan-Indian audience. While Baahubali Part 1 collected a massive Rs 581 crore worldwide, the second installment became India’s first Rs 1000 crore grosser and ended its global frenzy at Rs 1745 crore.

After the massive success of Baahubali films, Prabhas emerged as a pan-Indian star and further strengthened his position with upcoming releases. The actor returned to the big screen with Saaho, which grossed around Rs 418 crore worldwide despite mixed to negative word of mouth.

The actor faced a low point with Radhe Shyam, which received a disastrous reception and could only collect Rs 137 crore worldwide. He later starred in Adipurush, which led to controversies over character arcs, appearance, dialogues and visual effects. The Om Raut-directed film was panned across India. However, it managed to collect Rs 351 crore worldwide, thanks to the superstardom of Prabhas and Ramayana sentiment.

Prabhas may have hit rock bottom with Radhe Shyam and Adipurush, but the star rebounded with Salaar and Kalki in 2898 AD. While the Prashanth Neel-directed action film smashed Rs 617 crore worldwide, Nag Ashwin’s dystopian epic saga stormed to Rs 983 crore worldwide.

Rebel star Prabhas has established himself as a huge Pan-India star who is not only pushing the boundaries with each of his upcoming releases but also taking risks with crazy ideas, at least on paper. The actor has an incredible line-up ahead of him that will cement his position as a true Pan-India Superstar.

Talking about his upcoming releases, the actor will next be seen in The Raja Saab, directed by Maruthi. He is also doing a world war based love story with Hanu Raghavapudi, Salaar 2 with Prasanth Neel and Kalki 2898 AD sequel with Nag Ashwin.
