City residents inclined to “launch a new challenge” amid verdict on PL “vote” and not “dispute resolution”

A football finance expert has warned the Premier League that Manchester City could “launch a new challenge” against associated party transaction (APT) rules.

city man has insisted on his innocence after being accused of violating more than 100 Premier League Financial Fair Play rules.

pep guardiolaThe team was charged in early 2023 after the Premier League carried out a four-year investigation into its conduct between 2009 and 2018.

This case was later referred to an independent commission. The hearing is currently ongoing and could last into next year.

At the beginning of this year, a new brake was put on the matter, since Man City have launched a legal battle against the Premier League to campaign for the APT rules to be scrapped.

Last week, Former Manchester City advisor Stefan Borson backed the Premier League to make a ‘u-turn’ as new “changes will take us back to the original 2021 associated party rules” after a couple of components of the current regulations were deemed illegal.

“It’s not a big surprise in terms of the proposed changes,” Borson said.

“What we know is that there will be a vote on November 22 to effectively consider changes that will take us back to the original 2021 associated party rules.

“In effect, it will undo changes made in 2024 that the court found illegal.

“The interesting thing is that we still don’t know if additional questions were put to the tribunal in terms of whether the solution may be the one proposed here by the Premier League.”

In an interview with soccer expert, Borson has advised Manchester City to “launch a new legal challenge” as the Premier League vote on November 22 is unlikely to resolve the dispute.

He said: “We will see if the changes are carried out.

“It will be interesting to see what happens and whether this ends up being something of a repeat of what happened in December 2023, when Man City said: ‘We don’t think this is legal and if you go ahead we will be able to challenge it legally.’ In the end, City was right.

“It will be interesting to see. I think it’s probably just the first step in the process, rather than a complete solution.

“But it may be that right in this notice period before the actual vote, we may get some official notification of what the court has said in supplemental questions, but let’s see.”
