Nigel Farage launches three-point attack on Keir Starmer over ‘offensive’ decision | Politics | News

Nigel Farage attacked Sir Keir Starmer after Donald Trump accused Labor of meddling in the US election.

The Republican presidential candidate’s campaign announced last night that an official complaint had been filed with US federal election officials.

The complaint follows reports of meetings between senior Labor officials with Democrat Kamala Harris’ campaign, and party staffers who volunteered for her campaign on the ground.

The Clacton MP also used the post to speak out about the decision to transfer sovereignty over the Chagos Islands to Mauritius earlier this month.

Mr Farage, a close ally of Mr Trump, said: This was a terrible decision by Keir Starmer’s government, which has now surrendered the vital Chagos Islands, sent 100 Labor Party campaigners to support Kamala Harris (and) has already offended the new Trump administration. .”

The Prime Minister stressed last night that his relationship with Trump is not in danger following the claims of election interference.

Asked whether it was a mistake that senior staffers had met with the Harris campaign, he insisted that all members of his party were in the US on an entirely voluntary basis, as in previous elections.

“That’s what they did in previous elections, and that’s what they’re doing in this election. And that is very simple,” he told reporters as he traveled to Samoa for a meeting of Commonwealth leaders.

When pressed further on whether Labor officials’ involvement in the Harris-Waltz Democratic campaign could jeopardize his relationship with Trump if the ex-president wins re-election, Sir Keir replied: “No.”

He added: “I spent time in New York with President Trump, had dinner with him, and my goal in doing so was to make sure that we built a good relationship between the two of us, which we did, and I was very grateful. to him for making time.”

After describing the meeting as a “good, constructive discussion”, Sir Keir added: “As Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, I will of course work with whoever the American people return as President in the elections that are now very close .”

The statement on DonaldJTrump.com on Tuesday evening said: “The Trump-Vance Campaign has filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) against the Harris-Walz Campaign and the United Kingdom Labor Party for illegal foreign campaign contributions and interference in our elections”.

The complaint related to a social media post, which now appears to have been deleted, in which a Labor staffer said that “nearly 100 Labor Party staff (current and former) would be heading to the US in the coming weeks” to states and adding that there were 10 more places.
