Israel confirms the killing of suspected Hezbollah heir in an airstrike

Tel Aviv/Jerusalem | Israel confirmed on Tuesday (Wednesday AEDT) that it has killed a Hezbollah leader widely expected to replace the militant group’s longtime boss Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in an Israeli attack last month.

The military said Hashem Safieddine was killed in an attack carried out three weeks ago in Beirut’s southern suburbs, marking the first confirmation of his death. Earlier this month, Israel said he had likely been eliminated.
