In another post, he allegedly wrote: “I apologize to younger voters because my Generation X is full of fucking fascists.”

The online posts soon sparked a backlash with a multitude of social media users calling on her to resign, claiming she could not carry out her job as an editor objectively.

Helmuth, who used to work at the Washington Post as a science and health editor, issued an apology a few days later in which she attempted to distance her professional career from her personal speech.

“I made a series of offensive and inappropriate posts on my personal Bluesky account on election night and I am sorry,” he wrote in a statement. “I respect and value people from across the political spectrum. These posts, which I deleted, do not reflect my beliefs; They were an erroneous expression of shock and confusion over the election results.

“These publications, of course, do not reflect the position of Scientific American or my colleagues. “I am committed to civil communication and editorial objectivity,” she added.

American scientist formally endorsed Harris for president over Trump, only the second time in the magazine’s 179-year history that its editors chose the White House.

The only other time the outlet endorsed a candidate was in 2020, when it endorsed former Vice President Joe Biden, who was also running against Trump.

Trump, the 45th president and soon-to-be 47th president, easily defeated Harris last week, earning 312 electoral votes in a resounding victory.
