Phil Parkinson confirms Wrexham suffered a new injury ahead of the match against Huddersfield Town

According to manager Phil Parkinson, Wrexham have suffered a major blow on the injury front.

The Red Dragons welcomed Huddersfield Town to the Racecourse Ground on October 22 for a League One meeting.

Wrexham were looking to extend their excellent home record this year but that came to an end after a disappointing attacking performance against the Terriers.

The Wales side were far from their best going forward, with Elliot Lee concerned for Phil Parkinson after the midfielder failed to make a single key pass or even attempt a dribble in the 90 minutes.

Ryan Barnett was the standout in Wrexham vs Huddersfield, but they have now lost their record of winning every home game in 2024/25.

To make matters worse, Birmingham City won on Tuesday as the Blues extended their lead in League One to four points with a game in hand.

Wrexham suffered a serious injury for Huddersfield Town

However, Tuesday’s result and performance were not the only concerns for the Wrexham manager as they have now suffered a new injury blow.

After missing Saturday’s win over Rotherham United, Parkinson confirmed that Jack Marriott was injured and will be on the sidelines for four months.

Now, speaking after Huddersfield, the Wrexham boss has admitted they have now lost another striker to injury.

Steven Fletcher, 37, was left out of the matchday squad against the Yorkshire team, while Parkinson shared a worrying update after the match.

He said: “Fletch is a real problem, a real blow for us. It flared up last weekend.”

Wrexham could enter the transfer market to replace Steven Fletcher

After losing Marriott for four months, Parkinson claimed Wrexham will not sign a free agent to replace the 30-year-old.

However, as mentioned in the tweet above, the 56-year-old’s attitude seems to have changed after the latest blow against Flecther.

Wrexham always start with two strikers and currently only have Paul Mullin, Ollie Palmer and summer signing Modou Faal competing for two places.

Given how hectic the League One schedule is, especially as we head towards the Christmas period, it is clear that Wrexham will have to sign a replacement via the free agent market.

Who that will be remains to be seen, but there has to be some sort of cover sooner or later, with Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds no doubt willing to pay to ensure the best possible option is signed.

However, at the moment there are not many top quality number nines available to fill the large gap in Wrexham’s front line.
