Sterling Heights man sentenced to life in prison without parole for brutal murder of girlfriend

Jason Ross, 50, has been sentenced by the Michigan Department of Corrections to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the brutal murder of his girlfriend.

Officials say Ross was found guilty of his girlfriend’s murder by a Macomb County jury on Wednesday (Sept. 4) after a 10-day jury trial.

The incident occurred on Saturday, July 24, 2021, when Ross brutally murdered his girlfriend, Kathleen Hales, 47, by stabbing her multiple times and hitting her with a hammer in their Sterling Heights home.

Ross hid the body and fled with Hales’ credit cards, prescription drugs and her car.

The 50-year-old man was arrested in Prescott, MI, with one of the murder weapons and the victim’s belongings.

Ross was found guilty of first-degree murder, life without parole, theft from a building, a four-year felony, unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, a five-year felony, and stealing a financial transaction device without consent , a four-year felony.
