Pope’s Tavern Family Art Day to celebrate creativity and community through art workshops

A day is coming to North Alabama this week designed to celebrate creativity and community through a series of art workshops. The Shoals Art Collective has partnered with Florence Arts and Museums to present the inaugural Pope’s Tavern Family Art Day.

The event is inspired by the collection at the museum and focuses on sustainability, with an emphasis on the use of natural and recycled materials that are collected or found locally.

The art day will feature a morning and afternoon session and will take place on October 26 at Pope’s Tavern Museum at 203 Hermitage Drive in Florence. Registration details for each offering can be found here.

The morning session of Pope’s Tavern Family Art Day from 10am to 12pm, aimed at children, offers the opportunity to participate in three art activities:

  • Nature cyanotype paper print with Heather Fleming
  • Collage of self-portrait silhouettes with Erin Dailey
  • Windchime Sculptural storytelling and sensory experience with Ellen Dempsey

Breakfast is served for all participating children. While children are busy with activities, parents can enjoy the museum with a cup of cider.

The afternoon session from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM will be hosted by Nadene Mairesse. Participants will learn how to hand-sew a historic quilt block using native, vegetable-dyed fabrics. Pre-registration for this event is required and can be done here.

Participants are encouraged to arrive early as the Alabama Renaissance Faire will take place in Wilson Park and parking will be limited.
