The British Prison Service is in a doomsday scenario

WThem Andy Laylaw I started working as a prison guard in 1998 and it was “a fun job”. There were both “low lows” and “high highs,” but it was mostly safe and you “could feel like you were making a difference.” Mr Laidlaw, an outspoken Scouser, rose through the ranks and eventually became deputy governor. He describes the work – which required the skills to deal with the most troubled people and the agility to ‘safely be attacked’ – with pride. The best officers were a “mix of Kofi Annan and a MMA champion”.
