Prominent Kanpur ophthalmologist arrested for alleged harassment of junior doctor | Kanpur News

Kanpur: Swaroop Nagar police have arrested an ophthalmologist Dr. K. N. Katiyar Wednesday in connection with a case of intimidation of a female junior doctor from GSVM medical college Kanpur. The suspected doctor is currently being questioned by police.
The victim, a third-year MS student in the ophthalmology department of the medical college, reported that she was sent to Ursula Hospital for three months in October 2023 under the district residency program. During her broadcast, Dr KN Katiyar, who lives in Awas Vikas Kalyanpur and was posted in the ophthalmology department, allegedly harassed her. The harassment continued even after her post ended, with the suspect making phone calls and sending WhatsApp messages, she alleged.
The victim further alleged that on August 8 and 13 this year, while in an intoxicated state, the suspect threatened to throw acid on her face outside her room at the New Hostel on the medical college campus, the victim further alleged.
“The woman doctor and other medical students reported to the hospital administration about indecent behavior and harassment by an eye surgeon, following which an FIR was lodged at Swaroop Nagar police station. The suspect has been arrested and legal action is underway,” ADCP said. Central Mahesh Kumar.
According to the victim, the director of the medical college intervened at the time and promised the suspect that he would not repeat such behavior in the future. However, the victim has been suffering from mental stress for a year and is greatly affected by the incident. An FIR was lodged against Dr KN Katiyar at Swaroop Nagar police station for stalking the woman, using foul language and making threats. The victim’s statements were recorded last week.
