Tuskegee University shooting: 12 people shot and 18-year-old killed in homecoming shooting at Tuskegee University in Alabama

One person was killed and several others, including students, were injured when a barrage of shooting broke out early Sunday on the campus of Tuskegee University in Alabama, ruining the school’s centennial festivities, authorities said.

The shooting unfolded about 1:40 a.m. on the Macon County campus as homecoming activities, including a Saturday afternoon football game between Tuskegee and Alabama’s Miles College, were wrapping up, authorities said.

16 people were injured, twelve of them shot, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Investigation Office.

An 18-year-old man died at the scene.

According to broadcasts provided by Broadcastify, several shooters were suspected to have been involved. Officials have not confirmed this.

“There will be two shooters at this point, maybe more,” an officer said in a radio call, according to transmissions provided by Broadcastify.

The campus shooting resulted in “the death of a non-university individual,” the university said in a statement issued early Sunday.

“The parents of this individual have been notified,” the statement said. “Several others, including Tuskegee University students, were injured and are receiving treatment at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika and Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery.”

Several videos posted on social media captured what appeared to be numerous gunshots and showed people diving to the ground or taking cover in vehicles.

At the request of the Macon County Sheriff’s Office, special agents with the ALEA Bureau of Investigation are investigating the shooting and working to identify the suspects.

“Special agents are still in the process of gathering and examining information relating to the sequence of events that ultimately led to the shooting. The scene has now been secured by multiple law enforcement agencies. At this time, no arrests have been made,” ALEA said .

University officials added: “The university is in the process of completing student accountability and notifying parents. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.”

No arrests have been made in the shooting, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) said in a statement issued around 11 a.m. local time on Sunday.
