Police in Rivers State have confirmed that a man was lynched by an angry mob for attempting to commit a crime.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, disclosed this in a statement.

He said the body of the unidentified man was found lying along the Olu Obasanjo road in Port Harcourt.

According to her, the police swung into action upon receiving the report and discovered that the body was that of a notorious suspect operating in the area.

“Preliminary findings suggest that the individual may have been lynched by an angry mob at the scene while attempting to commit a crime, and his remains were subsequently dumped on the road, where he was struck by a fast-moving vehicle, causing significant damage. bodily harm. .

“On November 9, 2024, at about 1030 hours, the Rivers State Police Command received a report of an unidentified dead body lying near Ayama Junction/Ikokwu Spare Parts Market, along Olu-Obasanjo Road, Port Harcourt. Our agents quickly responded to the scene.

“Upon investigation, it was discovered that the deceased was allegedly a notorious individual known for serial robberies and robberies in and around Ikokwu.

“Fortunately, all vital organs were found intact. “The body has been evacuated and a thorough investigation is currently underway to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident,” he said.
