ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Florida. (WALA) – Escambia County, Florida sheriff’s officials report that a deputy was involved in a shooting Saturday night.

They say on November 9, 2024, ECSO deputies responded to multiple reports of shots fired in the 800 block of Amberway Drive at approximately 10:37 p.m.

They say callers indicated a man was shooting a gun in their front yard.

ECSO officials say when deputies arrived at the scene, the suspect fired at them with an AR-15 rifle, missing them.

Authorities say officers gave multiple commands to the suspect to drop the gun, but he refused.

They say officers were forced to shoot the suspect after he refused multiple commands and he was taken to a local hospital.

ECSO says a handgun and an AR-15 rifle were recovered in the front yard.

They say, per Sheriff’s Office policy, the deputies involved will be placed on administrative leave.

ECSO also says the Florida Department of Law Enforcement has been notified and is currently investigating the officer-involved shooting.
