The last one on the list is Vihan VermaRecently, in an interview with News18, Vihan recalled the time when he was asked to make a commitment. Vihan mentioned that he was only 17 at the time and was left ‘terrified’ after the incident.
“I encountered this unfortunate experience early in my acting career. During an audition, a suspicious individual made inappropriate advances, asking me if I would compromise my values ​​in exchange for a role. I was only 17 years old and terrified. I politely and immediately declined I left his office,” he said.
“At first, I was traumatized and not sure how to react. Being born and brought up in Mumbai, I was aware of such incidents, but I never expected them to happen to me. To protect myself, I gained confidence and self-assurance, ensuring that others don’t dare approach me with similar proposals,” added the young star.
Vihan shared that although he was hesitant to share the incident with his parents, he told his friends. However, when he told his parents, they supported him. “I immediately shared the incident with friends, but hesitated to inform my parents, fearing that they would advise me to stop acting. When I finally trusted them, they offered me unwavering support and encouragement to remain confident and assertive,” he said.
But the shocking incident did not discourage Vihan from pursuing his dreams. Talking about the same, the actor shared, “I recognized that sexual harassment exists everywhere, not just in the entertainment industry. I was determined to succeed without compromising my values.”
“I overcame the initial emotional distress by focusing on my goals. I strengthened my determination and decided to succeed without succumbing to pressure. Developing confidence and mental resilience helped me move forward,” he added.
Vihan mentioned that unfortunately such incidents are not uncommon and hence anyone facing casting must stay mentally strong.
“Maintain confidence and mental toughness. Predators target vulnerable people. Remember, saying ‘no’ doesn’t hinder success; it makes you stronger. Don’t compromise – your talent will speak for itself. Supporting those facing similar experiences helps create a safer environment,” he explained.
Vihan concluded by saying that showbiz is changing now and people have started speaking out or confronting those who ask for sexual advances. “I hope that opportunities are granted based solely on talent, eliminating commitments that unfairly overshadow deserving artists,” he said.
