Kyle Shanahan confirms Brandon Aiyuk’s season-ending ACL, MCL Tear

The San Francisco 49ers will be without one of their top wide receivers for the remainder of the 2024 season. Head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed his first injury update for Brandon Aiyuk during his press conference on Monday, stating that the wideout suffered a torn ACL and MCL in the team’s Week 7 game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

“I talked to him last night and called him at his house,” Shanahan said. “I didn’t see him today, but he was in pain and just disappointed, you know, just as you would expect. But BA is a strong guy and a spiritual guy, and he believes everything is happening for him.” a reason. So he’ll be fine, but he was definitely a little down last night. I just told him how bad I felt for him and let him know that we are all here for him because of this.

Aiyuk was injured in the final minute of the second quarter of Sunday’s game on a 15-yard reception when he hauled in the pass and came down with a pair of Chiefs defenders. He was able to walk off the field after the match, but was carted off the field shortly afterwards and did not play again.

The fifth-year pro led the 49ers in receiving yards the past two seasons, eclipsing the 1,000-yard mark and scoring seven or more receiving touchdowns in each of those campaigns. Through the first seven games of the 2024 season, Aiyuk has recorded 25 catches for 374 yards, including a season-long completion of 53 yards against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 4.

Aiyuk was the 49ers’ first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and signed a four-year extension in August of this year that will keep him in the Bay through the 2028 season.
