Celebrity Gogglebox confirms the first link ahead of the show’s return this week

Celebrity glasses case has announced the first pairing for the new season, which will see comedians Josh Widdicombe and Stephen Merchant join the bench.

The much-loved Channel 4 show returns for a seventh edition raising money for Stand Up to Cancer. Widdicombe and Merchant, of Taskmaster And The office UK is respectively the first celebrity couple to be revealed this year, and more TV-watching couples will be revealed in the coming days.

“I usually don’t allow myself to talk when the TV is on because I know how much work goes into making shows, so I try to give them my full attention. But I like to break my own rule for Stand Up to Cancer and join me in this year’s Gogglebox special with my friend Josh Widdicombe,” Merchant said in a statement.

“The charity does fantastic work raising money for life-saving research and it is a privilege to be involved.”

As for Widdicombe, he weighed in on the official announcement, saying: “Stand Up to Cancer is an incredible cause, so I’m honored to be involved. I love Stephen and especially enjoy working with him when we sit down, so I look not like a hobbit beside him.”

More combinations will be announced in the week leading up to Friday’s episode (October 25).

Celebrity Gogglebox for Stand Up to Cancer is available to watch and stream on Channel 4 on October 25 at 9pm.
