Waverly woman sentenced to 40 years for murder

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) – A Waverly woman will spend the next four decades behind bars for second-degree murder.

Melody Ann Anderson was sentenced Monday afternoon by Wood County Circuit Court Judge Robert Waters to the maximum sentence of 40 years for first-degree murder.

Anderson was charged with the murder of Robert Marshall Throckmorton in January of this year.

Anderson told police she shot and killed Throckmorton after he tried to rape her in 2022 and then buried his body in a shed on her property.

Prosecutor Pat Lefebure cast doubt on the claim that Anderson shot Throckmorton as he tried to attack her during the sentencing hearing, citing medical evidence and text exchanges between Throckmorton and Anderson.

Anderson was sentenced to an additional one to five years in prison for concealing a human body.
