Bridgerton fans, there’s a new romance series I love that I absolutely need to get into right now

There have been others shows how Bridgerton before, but this one hits the mark because of how beautifully dramatic and epic the forbidden romance at its center is. Let me tell you about why you need to tune in to the new Max series:

What is it about like chocolate water?

Like water for chocolate is an adaptation of the Mexican novel of the same name by Laura Esquivel (originally Like water for chocolate) and was previously made into a film in 1992. The Spanish-language series follows a family of women who lived during the Mexican Revolution at the beginning of the 20th century. The story centers on the domineering and single Mama Elena and her three daughters, Rosaura, Gertrudis and Tita. The youngest daughter, Tita, falls in love with a boy named Pedro as a child and their bond continues into adulthood, where Pedro decides to ask Tita for her hand in marriage. However, her mother has another destiny in store for her: that Tita remains single and takes care of her until she dies.

But mom Elena does He wants to marry his eldest daughter. In a heartbreaking decision for the young lovers, Pedro agrees to marry Rosaura in an effort to at least be close to his beloved Tita. This is the crux of the incredible drama that begins to unfold in the first episode of Like water for chocolatewhich is already broadcast on Max. It’s just the beginning of a truly juicy story that Esquivel cooked up in his novel and that has made it so beloved for the last 35 years.

Why I love it and think more Bridgerton fans will love it too

As you can see from the plot, it is in no way a carbon copy of Bridgerton; It’s totally yours. However, as BridgertonIt takes place at a time when getting married was seen as a business agreement rather than a confession of love, and for some reason I’m always entertained by how that tension affected the young people of that time. The plot reminds me a little of my favorite. Bridgerton season 2 couple, Kate and Anthony. Their romance began when he proposed to her sister Edwina, although it turned out he was pining for Kate.

As someone who has a sister, there’s something scathing about the idea of someone I love being kidnapped by my brother when I have my own feelings for him, and Like water for chocolate She handles the deep emotions Tita is dealing with so well. Not only does Tita have to watch her lover marry her sister, but she’s basically doomed to never find love again, and I’m so interested in how everything will play out on the show from week to week, which only adds to the excitement. tension and longing filling this show.

Like water for chocolate, it is also reminiscent of two other romantic classics.

The series was produced by Salma Hayekthat had a fun text exchange moment with your main cast when they got the roles, which CinemaBlend learned from speaking with Tita and Gertrudis (Azul Guaita and Andrea Chaparro) about the show. The magical realism of the novel also contributes something different to the genre

While Bridgerton Always had a specific fantasy, this series has a more disturbing quality in comparison. Still, I think Bridgerton Fans will love diving into the magical realism inherent in the stories, which is also a big part of the novel. While Tita deals with her grief, she spends a lot of time doing what she loves, which is cooking and baking. The novel is famous for having a Mexican recipe in each chapter that correlates with what the protagonist faces and each episode of Like water for chocolate adapts some of these recipes to the television show in an incredibly delicious way.

But there is a twist. Not only does Tita know how to cook a beautiful dish, but any feeling she has when she prepares her recipe affects everyone who eats it. As you can imagine, as Tita deals with the myriad of emotions that come with her particular situation, her cooking and baking will prompt those around her to have some strange side effects that really start to work into the plot. I will also say that things like ghosts and such aren’t out of the question for this series either. is different from Bridgertonbut for those who are fans of the Netflix series, I think you will somehow love what this show brings to the table.
