Georgia fans want Mike Bobo and Carson Beck fired into the sun after Ole Miss kickoff

Even eight games into the season, it has been impossible to match the ups and downs of the Georgia Bulldogs this year. When you watch the beatings the Dawgs handed out to Clemson and Texas, while also seeing struggles against Kentucky, Mississippi State and certainly in the first half against Alabama, it seemed impossible to know what iteration of Georgia we would see on its big trip to Oxford will face the No . 16 Ole Miss on Saturday.

However, after the first 30 minutes of action, the answer to which version we would see would probably be best characterized as “not the version UGA fans wanted to witness in the slightest.”

Not only did Georgia’s defense not perform well, particularly in the secondary, but in the first half against Ole Miss, the offense was really putrid. Kirby Smart’s team entered the locker room having accumulated a measly 69 total yards of offense. And while Carson Beck’s interception problem didn’t persist, throwing for 49 yards on 6-of-10 passing didn’t earn him any fans.

And as a result, Dawgs fans took aim at Beck and, more specifically, much-maligned offensive coordinator Mike Bobo while our friends at Message Board Geniuses rallied fans calling for the OC to hit the road, Jack!

While we typically see the biggest overreactions in college football from message board geniuses, this one might have some credibility.

While Beck certainly hasn’t done this Georgia offense any favors and the offensive line has underperformed, it has felt for weeks (basically since the narrow win over Kentucky) that Bobo is actively crippling the offense.

Some Dawgs fans have reached a stage of acceptance with Bobo, who has been very reluctant to run the pace, be creative and open up this offense, particularly in the first half. But why should it be like this?

For me, I always go back to the second half of the loss to Alabama, when Georgia nearly completed an unreal comeback when it came to Bobo and what should have been a wake-up call. When the time came, he ran faster than normal and the offense found its rhythm. And every time we’ve seen the Bulldogs have to press faster than their normal pace, the offense has consistently looked better and more dangerous.

We’ll see what happens in the second half against Ole Miss, no doubt, but the least of what we’ve seen says Georgia needs to seriously consider how much Bobo is actively holding this team back.
