3 accused of smuggling fentanyl into prison after death of inmate

TUTLECREEK TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WXIX) – Three people, including a state prison worker, are accused of smuggling drugs into Lebanon Correctional Institution, resulting in the overdose death of an inmate.

A Warren County grand jury on Monday returned indictments against inmate Landis Daqwon Talbert, 26, of Lincoln Heights; Ryeheim Mekhi Isaiah Warren, 20, of Mt. Healthy and Lindsey Brooke Lucas 39, of Dayton, a jail employee, court records show.

Talbert and Lucas are accused of bringing fentanyl into the prison with Warren’s help.

Lucas hid the drugs in her lunchbox, Warren County Prosecutor Dave Fornshell said.

Talbert “provided those drugs to another inmate who died from ingesting the drugs,” the grand jury report said.

The inmate, Joshua Gunn, 29, died May 16, 2023, according to county and jail records.

He was serving a 5.5-year prison sentence following convictions in Hamilton County in 2022 for aggravated assault and possession of weapons under disability.

All three were charged with one count each of illegally transporting drugs onto the grounds of a specific government facility and trafficking in a fentanyl-related substance.

Talbert was also charged with involuntary manslaughter, corrupting another with drugs and possession of a fentanyl-related drug.

He was taken to a state prison in Lucasville.

Talbert has been in prison since early 2018 and is expected to be released in just over a year after pleading guilty to shooting two youths, 15 and 17, in the parking lot of a Lincoln Heights apartment complex in July 2016, according to reports. according to an affidavit.

He was convicted of two felonies and one count of carrying a concealed weapon.
