Grizzlies two-time All-Star Ja Morant week after week with right hip injury

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — The Memphis Grizzlies announced Saturday that two-time All-Star point guard Ja Morant He has an injured right hip that will keep him out week after week.

Morant was seen on crutches Friday night during Memphis’ victory about the Washington Wizards. It was originally announced that he had injured his right hamstring during Wednesday night win over the Lakers.

The Grizzlies said additional testing showed that Morant, who was hit in the air by a Lakers player while trying to catch a lob in the third quarter, suffered extreme flexion of his right hip. She suffered a partial posterior hip subluxation without dislocation and multiple Grade 1 pelvic muscle strains.

The team says updates will be provided “as appropriate.”

The Grizzlies traveled to Portland on Saturday to play the Trail Blazers on Sunday night. Coach Taylor Jenkins said before Friday night’s game that Morant felt the injury more in his hip after further evaluation, and that he underwent testing Friday with another consultation scheduled for Saturday.

After starting last season with a 25-game NBA suspension for his off-court activity, dweller He returned and played in just nine games before a shoulder injury forced him to undergo season-ending surgery.

This season, he averaged 20.6 points in his first eight games. The Grizzlies are 6-4 and entered Saturday sixth in the Western Conference standings after missing the playoffs last season.

Memphis is already missing a couple of starters in Marcus Smart and Desmond Bane. Smart sprained his right ankle and Bane has a right oblique strain: injuries suffered in the same game that has put them in week-to-week status since November 1st.
