Liverpool fans are on red alert as Virgil van Dijk confirms contract talks

Liverpool captain Vigil van Dijk has given an important update on his contract extension talks at Anfield.

Arne Slot’s side remain top of the Premier League after a 2-1 home win over Chelsea on the return from the October international break, but contracts remain the hot topic in the red half of Merseyside.

Van Dijk’s current contract expires at the end of the 2024/25 season, along with fellow stars Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah.

Former Reds captain Graeme Souness has tipped Van Dijk as the most likely of the trio to sign an extension with Alexander-Arnold, reportedly attracting interest from Real Madrid.

All three are eligible to negotiate free transfers to non-Premier League clubs from early 2024, but no transfers can be completed until the summer.

As fans wait for updates, Van Dijk has become the first to openly state that negotiations are underway, with the club hoping for a decision before the end of 2024.

What the future holds, I have no idea at the moment, but as I said in previous answers, there are conversations going on with the right people and when it’s time for a decision, I think you (the media) will know too,” said quotes from BBC Sport.
