Actor Brooke Shields is emotional as she wonders why her mother let her be in intimate scenes at age 11 – Celebrity

Brooke Shields broke down in tears as she recalled her mother’s decision to let her film intimate scenes at the age of 11.

Shields, 59, was perhaps one of the most famous faces in the ’80s. After starting her career as a child model, Shields went on to star in films such as Beautiful darling, The Blue Lagoon And Endless love at a young age.

However, the actor’s early career has since been viewed more critically, with many questioning the decision to cast a child in the lead opposite older male actors in sexualized roles.

Shields himself has since reflected on this during a two-part documentary entitled Beautiful baby: Brooke Shields, watch the trailer below:

In one particularly poignant moment, the now adult Brooke, who has had children of her own, recalls her mother’s decision to let her play the lead role. Beautiful baby at such a young age.

The controversial film stars Shields as a child prostitute living in New Orleans, with her co-star Keith Carradine (who was 27 at the time) kissing and also appearing nude in several scenes.

While casting a child to play a sexualized role is something that sounds abhorrent to us today, Shields’ mother was on set for filming and allowed the events to unfold, watching her daughter told me it was just a ‘fabrication’.

Understandably, this decision horrified her two daughters, Rowan and Grier, who were featured in the documentary in which their mother was questioned about whether or not she would let them be in such a sexual film at a young age to play.

“Would you have let us do that at 11?” eldest daughter Rowan asks in the clip, to which Shields responds by bursting into tears and saying “no.”

Beautiful baby is not the only sexualized film in which Shields’ mother Teri allowed her to film minors The Blue Lagoon I saw her perform intimate scenes at the age of 14.

During an interview, she spoke about her mother’s decision to allow her to be sexualized in films and modeling campaigns The Sunday times in 2023, Shields admitted that she struggled to justify Teri’s actions towards her own daughters.

“That was hard for me, not to justify my mother to them,” she explained.

“I mean, I could say, ‘Oh, it was then,’ or ‘Oh, it was art.’ But I don’t know why she thought it was okay.’

Despite her mother’s actions, the actor added that she doesn’t completely blame her, explaining that it was difficult to be angry.

“Everyone always wanted me to be mad at her,” Shields said. “But the anger was just too sad for me seeing how insecure she was.”
