Saints’ Olave headed to IR, could finish season, report says

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – The Saints are expected to place Chris Olave on injured reserve sometime Saturday (Nov. 9), and the wide receiver could be ready for the rest of the season, a league source said. NFL.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport broke the news six days after Olave suffered his second concussion since Oct. 13 and was carted off the field in last Sunday’s loss at Carolina.

Olave, 24, has suffered four concussions since turning professional in 2022, and this was his fifth in the last five seasons playing soccer. He also suffered one on October 24, 2020, while playing for Ohio State against Nebraska.

Landing on injured reserve means Olave would miss a minimum of the next four games. That would leave him eligible to return for the Dec. 15 home game against Washington, which would be the start of New Orleans’ final four games of a season that began with a 2-7 record.

“Given the nature of his injury, the team’s history and the fact that he has been consulting specialists, there is a real possibility that Olave will have played his last attempt in 2024,” Rapoport tweeted.

Despite being knocked out early in two games and sitting out one game with his two head injuries, Olave remains the Saints’ leading receiver this season with 400 yards and ranks second in receptions (32) behind running back Alvin Kamara (46).
