Joe Biden invites Donald Trump to the White House for a smooth transfer of power

President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump will meet at the White House this Wednesday upon Biden’s invitation, according to a statement from a White House representative on Saturday (Nov. 9).

Trump, who defeated Vice President Kamala Harris in the Nov. 5 presidential election, will take office on Jan. 20. “At President Biden’s invitation, President Biden and President-elect Trump will meet in the Oval Office on Wednesday,” the press secretary reported. – Karine Jean-Pierre announced.

This meeting in the Oval Office is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., as the days draw closer for Trump’s return to office in January. In her concession speech on Wednesday, November 6, Vice President Kamala Harris addressed the nation after the unexpected loss to Trump and said, “This is not the time to give up. “This is the time to roll up our sleeves.”

Speaking at Howard University, where her supporters gathered, some visibly emotional over the campaign’s loss, Harris stated: “While I concede this election, I do not concede the fight that fueled this campaign.”

In his first public statement since the election, President Biden addressed the nation from the White House and emphasized that his administration would work to ensure a smooth transition. “Yesterday I spoke with President-elect Trump to congratulate him on his victory and assured him that I instruct my entire administration to work with his team to ensure a peaceful and orderly transition. “That’s what the American people deserve,” Biden said.

Biden concluded his speech by reflecting on the work accomplished during his term and saying, “Together, we have changed America for the better. Now we have 74 days to finish the deadline, our deadline. Let’s make every day count. “That is the responsibility we have to the American people.”

Exit polls showed the economy and inflation were voters’ top concerns, as both had risen during Biden’s tenure in the wake of the pandemic.

Biden had withdrawn from the race in July due to age-related concerns, as he was 81 years old at the time. After the election results, he congratulated Trump. However, unlike Biden’s gesture, Trump did not invite Biden to the White House after the 2020 election loss.
