Wissa’s double gives Brentford a thrilling victory against Bournemouth

Two goals from Yoane Wissa helped Brentford to another exciting victory as they twice came from behind to defeat AFC Bournemouth 3-2 at the Gtech Community Stadium.

It was another high-scoring Premier League game for Thomas Frank’s side at home, although they had to work hard to get the three points after Evanilson took advantage of a mistake to open the scoring for the visitors early in the first half.

Wissa equalized with a header before half-time, and when Justin Kluivert restored Bournemouth’s lead in the second half, Mikkel Damsgaard pulled the Bees level again, just one minute and 20 seconds later.

Wissa's goal

However, Wissa scored the winning goal nine minutes later with a beautiful shot to get the Bees back to winning ways after their heartbreaking late loss to Fulham on Monday.

Brentford leapfrogged their rivals into 10th place with 16 points, while Andoni Iraola’s side were one point behind them in 11th.

How the match developed

Unmarked Marcos Senesi had an early chance over the bar from close range for Bournemouth, but their blushes were saved moments later when Evanilson pounced on a weak back pass from Sepp van den Berg to coolly score the opener.

Ten minutes later the hosts were level again when Wissa headed goalwards into the bottom corner. However, Kluivert put Bournemouth ahead just after the restart with a beautiful move from a corner, one-two with Lewis Cook to work the space and shoot home.

Their lead lasted just 80 seconds, when Bryan Mbeumo got in on Damsgaard, who squeezed him in from a tight angle on the right.

Brentford took the lead for the first time in the 58th minute when Wissa took advantage of Vitaly Janelt’s curling pass and delightfully lifted it over Kepa.

Wissa's second goal

Bournemouth came within millimeters of an equalizer in the final minute when Enes Unal’s header hit the crossbar and could not be recovered.

Goals galore for Brentford

The hosts have failed to keep a clean sheet so far this season, but they guarantee entertainment, having scored 12 goals in their last three home games.

Bournemouth’s first goal was due to a mistake by Brentford. Van den Berg paid no attention to Evanilson’s pressure as he played a slow, short back pass towards his goalkeeper and saw the prolific Bournemouth striker take possession and finish in style.

Brentford, of course, had a response up their sleeve, as a lively Wissa was in a position to benefit from the chaos caused by an old-fashioned long shot into the box.

But despite their strong play in the final third, the Bees also fell short in defense for Bournemouth’s second goal, as the visitors took advantage of Mbeumo’s weak marking during a brilliantly worked corner.

Kluivert's goal

The hosts know the importance of not giving up after their recent encounter with Fulham and they made sure that was not the case today as they took advantage of another kick-off to quickly get back on level terms.

And they managed to maintain their lead in this match, receiving a stroke of luck when Unal’s last chance to equalize hit the woodwork.

Evansilson, a bright spark in defeat

The Cherries saw a brilliant run, which included wins over Manchester City and Arsenal, come to an end in west London, but for their star striker, the form continued.

Evanilson contributed his third goal in as many games and proved to be a vital part of Bournemouth’s bright start at the Gtech Community Stadium.

While it was Van den Berg’s mistake that set him up, the Brazilian striker made sure his goal was both aesthetically pleasing and functional.

Behind the Brentford defense, he drove towards Flekken’s right before dragging the ball to his left to set up the Dutch goalkeeper. It was with cool arrogance that Evanilson rolled the ball into the net to open the scoring in the match.

Evanilson's goal

Although in the second half the game began to go against his team, he maintained his threat.

He asked for a penalty on the hour while running towards a ball in the box, but was awarded nothing.

Evanilson may not have been decisive on this occasion, but Iraola will be delighted to see his form continue as he looks to recover.
