Shirebrook: Bus stop works to take place as market redevelopment

The county council has invested some of the Bus Service Improvement Plan funding into this part of the project.

Cabinet member for growth Ritchie said: “We need to see investment that brings footfall to our high streets so our local shops and businesses can increase their trade and in turn reinvest that income into the local community.

“In particular, we thank Derbyshire County Council for allocating some of its funding to Shirebrook Market Place to improve the central and heavily used bus stops in the market.

“We want to encourage sustainable modes of transport and these commercial bus routes to our neighboring cities are a valuable link for people to get to work and access education, health, shopping and leisure opportunities.”

The council said the bus mobility hub will include upgrading bus stops and installing real-time information.

The first phase of the project took place in the summer and new pavements and surfaces were installed around the Mining Memorial, which opened in May 2023.

The memorial is open over the weekend for people who want to pay their respects and on Remembrance Day.

The council added that it is pleased to confirm that Shirebrook Market Place will be one of the venues to receive additional funding as part of the government’s recently announced £15 million Regeneration Fund.

This will deliver a new events center and complete public realm works, which will take place in the New Year.
